I Am New Here
Worship Style
The worship service begins at 9:30 am on Sunday, and is filled with prayer, music, scripture, and a biblical message. Communion is celebrated the first Sunday of each month and is open to all. During the School Year, Sunday School runs from 8:30 to 9:15. Kids of all ages are welcome to participate in worship, and activity materials are provided. Seating is available in pews, or in individual chairs behind the rows of pews. Wheelchair areas are located in various sections of the sanctuary. Large print hymnals are available, as well as communion wherever you are seated. The service can be enjoyed from any location on the main floor, with tables available in the back in our family-friendly environment. Assisted listening devices are available for the hearing impaired. We have no dress code - Sunday attire ranges from suits and dresses to jeans and tee shirts. As the Bible says, come as you are!
What now?
A church can be intimidating for a first- time guest. We so hope that your will make a return visit, and believe that you are a visitor only once at Merrimac UMC! We encourage you to sign our guest book in the narthex, and to explore our church. Our pastor or worship chair would be delighted to follow up with you in any way – a phone call, a visit at the parsonage or in your home, a prayer, coffee or a meal together – depending on your needs. We offer you a place where you will feel loved, encouraged, and challenged. And find friends for a lifetime.
Directions
Our church is located at 117 Church Street (corner of Church and School Streets). Driving through Merrimac on highway 78, turn north on Church Street and proceed one block. You will see the church building on your left. The main entrance is on the north side, with ample parking in our lot or on Church Street. You can be dropped off at the main entrance, and handicapped spots are available.
Arrival
As you walk into our church, all are welcome with open hands, open hearts, and open minds. You will be warmly greeted by our hosts (greeters and ushers), given a bulletin, shown the coats and boots area, and invited to the fellowship area for nourishment. Our pastor will be mingling among members, friends, and visitors. A wheelchair-accessible restroom is available on the main floor. Classrooms, additional restrooms, and the kitchen are on the downstairs level.
